Mountain Home, Idaho Real Estate
Mountain Home is located about 44 Miles east of Boise and is the largest city and county seat in Elmore County, Idaho. Mountain Home has a population of just under 15,000 people and is primarily known for its Air Force Base, proximity to the Snake River, CJ Strike Reservoir, and Bruneau Dunes State Park.
About seven miles east of the city on the present-day US-20 heading towards Fairfield, Rattlesnake Station, a stagecoach stop on the Overland Stage Line, was where Mountain Home's first post office was located. The post office was relocated to the city's current location by moving downhill and to the west after the Oregon Short Line Railroad was added in 1883.
12 miles southwest of the city is the Air Combat Command outpost Mountain Home Air Force Base. As a bomber training base during World War II, the base later became a functional Strategic Air Command bomber and missile base (1953–65). In January 1966, it changed to Tactical Air Command and fighters, which was replaced by Air Combat Command in 1992.
The whole area of Mountain Home, which is 3,146 feet above sea level, is roughly 6.36 square miles. Short, chilly winters and long, dry
summers are characteristics of the semi-arid climate in Mountain Home.
